Outstanding Accomplishments

Former Waldemar girl Margaret Swatek who was a 1st term Comanche from 1934-1937, is still living life to its fullest. Having turned 85 last May, she still plays tennis and golf regularly and serves on many community committees.

Former Waldemar girl Lacey Truncale was selected First Lady-in-Waiting in the Neches River Festival held last spring in Beaumont. She was voted by her peers as Miss Congeniality. On the same day as the festival, she was elected cheerleader for TCU for the fall. She is currently attending TCU in Fort Worth where she is a cheerleader and majoring in Psychology. Her goal is to become a child pyschologist.

Meanwhile, her younger sister and current Waldemar camper Lauren Truncale was elected to be a cheerleader on the freshman squad at West Brook High in Beaumont. She also served her middle school last year as vice president of the student council.

First term camper Emily Little excelled in sports this year being selected as the only freshman to play varsity volleyball for her high school. The team had a 13-1 record. We'll be watching for her on Games Day!

Former first term Aztec and Aztec leader Hannah Grubb Deppisch graduated from Texas A&M College of Medicine in May of 2006 and has been working this fall as a resident in Internal Medicine at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Former 2nd term Aztec (1977-79) Mary Margaret McAllen Amberson has authored a new book entitled "A Brave Boy & A Good Soldier: John C. Hill & the Texas Expedition to Mier." It is the true story of a young Texas fighting for his land subsequently captured and adopted by President Santa Anna. Amberson also authored the best-selling "I Would Rather Sleep in Texas: A History of the Lower Rio Grande Valley & the People of the Santa Anita Land Grant." She currently lives in San Antonio with her husband and three children.
