From the Horse's Mouth

Greetings from the Waldemar Stables! We have been busy this fall and are enjoying the beautiful
cooler weather.

In September, we hosted two weekends of polocrosse clinics. The first one was attended by campers Jane Anne Blount, Dejonna Casselman-Reed, Ailee Harmon and Stephanie Nelson; former campers Minette Morgan and Kristin Nelson; and wranglers Catherine Cotton and Megan Delgado. The second one was filled up with campers Cullum Bolin, Madeline Clyde, Olivia Flores, Taylor Foster, Brittany Hildebrand, AimeAnn LaMendola and Emma Roberts.

We lived, breathed and nearly slept with the horses. The girls woke early each morning to feed and clean stalls, then were off to breakfast before we began our morning Polocrosse drills and riding. They braided tails, wrapped legs, groomed, tacked up and hosed down the horses at the end of the ride. After lunch we had a short down time before they were back to the stables to prepare for the afternoon drills and ride. After feeding the horses and having dinner ourselves, we watched videos of the day’s drills and riding. We ended on Sunday with an exciting exhibition for the parents!

In October, we were busy playing Polocrosse and riding new camp horses to get them ready for next summer. I think we will have some new horses that everyone will enjoy.

On October 19, Catherine’s thoroughbred mare foaled twins. Only one survived the birth, and she is the most determined baby we have seen. Catherine named her Milagro, which means miracle in Spanish. She will call her Mila, pronounced ME-la, for short. We can’t wait for everyone to see her next summer.

Sadly, the day also brought the passing of a very special horse. Shadow, Teak’s nationally famous polocrosse horse, succumbed to cancer.

I hope everyone is settled into school and getting ready for the holidays. Camp will be here before we know it.

HAPPY TRAILS AS ALWAYS!
Liz
