Letter from the Director
Summer 2006 was a huge success for Waldemar! I think campers and counselors alike all enjoyed the beautiful sunshine we were blessed with, the butterflies that migrated through Second Term, and the opportunity to grow while at camp. The growth and success each camper achieves is based largely on the quality of the staff we employ. And I’m so proud to say our 2006 group was one of our best ever! Nearly two-thirds of our staff had previous experience with Waldemar as either counselors or campers. Not only were your children surrounded by women of all ages who strive to live and breathe the Waldemar ideals each day, but they were also privileged to be learning from some of the best and most experienced in their fields. For example, polocrosse riders are taught by Catherine Pipkin Pickens. As one of the nation’s most exceptional riders, Catherine was chosen by the American Polocrosse Association to play on the USA polocrosse team. Archers are under the guidance and tutelage of Jill Johnson, a 48-year Waldemar veteran. Campers of all ages benefit from the experience and knowledge of Jan Cannon who has been serving Waldemar in multiple capacities for 52 years, Joyce Jordan who has been here for 48 years, Barb Keller who has spent 45 years teaching at Waldemar, Liz Pohl with 19 years in the horseback department, and “newcomer” Shelley Mosher, who only has a mere seven years under her belt as a ceramics instructor. There is a popular saying “it takes a village to raise a child,” and I truly believe the Waldemar village positively impacts the lives of each child who spends their summer with us! I hope you agree! With warmest regards, |
