Letter from the Director:
Waldemar Under Construction
People often ask me what we do during the winter and I
think they are surprised when I say “get ready for camp.”
Once camp ends, then the clean-up, put-away and preparation for next summer begins. And of course, this year we have added two large construction projects to the list! The maintenance crew, headed by Noel Quinones, has come close to completing Round-Up Lodge before they move to the office project. It’s amazing to have such talented craftsmen working with us year-round. Of course, a new office means no more rivers running through the office during a rainstorm, no familiar sounds of the Chorus girls stomping above our heads, and Liz B. and Jill J. won’t have to duck their heads when walking out of the back office, but we will adjust. (In other words, we are VERY excited!)
In October we hosted the C.A.M.P. luncheon for all of the Texas camps. This association was created in the late 1960’s to bring together camps to further education, fellowship, training and legislative issues. You may have heard us mention the uniform school date effort launched by our organization to help create a consistent summer calendar. It was fun getting together with our other camp friends and spending time talking about our favorite subject camp!
Come January we will host our annual Buzzard Reunion and have invited the Waldemar representatives to join us. During this weekend we work on camp challenges, create new programming and of course enjoy Johnny’s fine cooking.
It will be summer time before we know it and we are all busy getting ready for your return.
Best wishes to you and your family during the holidays,
